New Waipapa Building at Christchurch Hospital in New Zealand Accepting Patients

Patients are now being cared for in the new Waipapa building at the Christchurch Hospital, located in New Zealand. The Waipapa building, formerly known as the Acute Services Building, is the largest hospital project ever delivered in New Zealand and has been constructed to stringent seismic requirements.

CPB Contractors delivered the new facility for New Zealand’s Ministry of Health. The Waipapa building includes:

  • New emergency department and operating theaters
  • Expanded intensive care unit
  • Children’s facilities
  • Radiology department
  • Rooftop helipad

The new child health spaces feature a beautiful new patient playground, the Matatiki Hub, and an activity room. Parents and caregivers will also appreciate having additional beds in each room.

Canterbury District Health Board’s Chief of Child Health Dr. Clare Doocey says the new spaces in Waipapa are amazing, and the move to the new facility is really going to benefit young patients.

“The new spaces are light, bright and colorful. The atmosphere is completely different to our previous wards in Christchurch Hospital and will be very pleasant and calming for families staying with us.”
