Barton Malow Company and project partner Gray Construction have broken ground at BlueOval SK Battery Park in Glendale, Kentucky. BlueOval SK, a joint venture between Ford and SK On, will produce advanced batteries onsite for future Ford and Lincoln electric vehicles.
Construction is ahead of schedule. To date:
- Crews have moved 4.3 million cubic yards of soil — enough to fill 200 American football stadiums
- 283,000 tons of stone have been laid, roughly equal to the weight of 1,350 freight trains
- 66,000 CY of concrete have been poured — enough to fill 356 backyard swimming pools
- 3,300 tons of resteel ties have been installed to reinforce the concrete, equivalent to the weight of more than 470 elephants
- 1,300 deep foundations have been installed, equal to the height of nearly 60 Empire State Buildings when put end to end
- 7,900 tons of structural steel have been erected two weeks ahead of schedule, equal to the weight of nearly 400 fire trucks
Battery production is set to begin at the facility in 2025.
Barton Malow, Gray Construction and Ford are helping the community through donations, sponsorships and volunteerism. These actions are in keeping with Barton Malow’s nearly century-long commitment to Building with the American Spirit: People, Projects, and Communities, as well as Ford’s 109-year history in Kentucky of partnering with the community to build the future together and Gray’s legacy of treating people the way we want to be treated.
