Plans in Place to Build Tallest Tower in Greece

Bouygues Bâtiment International, a subsidiary of Bouygues Construction, and its Greek partner Intrakat, have been chosen to build The Riviera Tower, a 200-meter-high residential tower on the Athens waterfront. Designed by Foster+Partners, The Riviera Tower is part of Europe’s largest urban regeneration program, known as “The Ellenikon” and developed by Lamda Development.

This program aims to transform the former Athens International Airport site and several adjacent areas used during the 2004 Olympic Games into a showcase for 21st-century Greece, combining environmental friendliness and economic attractiveness.

The Riviera Tower will be the tallest tower in Greece at a cost of €334 million. The elegant 50-story building will consist of 169 high-quality flats. Particular emphasis has been given to the place of nature within the building itself and in its surrounding area, reconciling aesthetics, well-being and respect for biodiversity.

The project team faces many challenges; for example, in addition to the structural challenges traditionally associated with tall buildings, they will need to satisfy the aesthetic requirements of a tower destined to become an icon, while guaranteeing the highest low-carbon standards. For this reason, new cement and concrete formulations have already been developed with Greek suppliers over the past year. The project is targeting LEED Gold certification.

At its peak, the site will employ 1,000 people and create 500 direct local jobs. Project handover is planned for early 2026.
