NREL Selects Design-Build Contractor for Newest Laboratory

The U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory has chosen JE Dunn Construction with its design partner SmithGroup to design and build a new research facility on the east side of its South Table Mountain Campus in Golden, Colorado. The 127,000-square-foot Energy Materials and Processing at Scale laboratory will be a signature facility that will enable collaboration with industry partners, universities and other DOE laboratories to accelerate laboratory-scale innovations in energy materials to market-ready products and processes. Milestone Achieved on Luxury High-Rise in Utah

Construction crews have placed the final beam atop the 41-floor Astra Tower luxury high-rise, marking the completion of structural steel work on Utah’s new tallest building. The downtown Salt Lake City tower has been steadily rising since the first above-grade concrete was poured in early 2023, rising a full level every seven days, on average. Bouygues Bâtiment International, a subsidiary of Bouygues Construction, and its Greek partner Intrakat, have been chosen to build The Riviera Tower, a 200-meter-high residential tower on the Athens waterfront. Designed by Foster+Partners, The Riviera Tower is part of Europe’s largest urban regeneration program, known as “The Ellenikon” and developed by Lamda Development. After nearly three years of tackling unexpected project challenges including substantial design-related change orders, long lead times for permanent power and COVID-19, the Bay Meadows Station 5 team celebrated achieving temporary certificate of occupancy 45 days ahead of schedule.
