PCL Pacific Rim has achieved substantial completion of the Gunnedah solar farm in New South Wales, Australia for Canadian Solar.
Achievement of this major milestone for PCL’s first solar project in Australia was made possible by the collaborative team efforts by PCL, its client, authorities, engineering specialists, trade partners and vendors.
Project highlights
- This was PCL’s first solar work in Australia, which consisted of the design, procurement and construction of a 153 megawatt solar electricity generating station
- The solar panels cover 304 hectares; the largescale solar photovoltaic system uses 353,528 bifacial Canadian solar-made panels on a single-axis tracking system
- The panels continuously generate energy as they follow the sun’s movement, east to west, throughout the day
- The Gunnedah Solar Farm will produce enough electricity to meet the needs of approximately 48,000 households and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by over 290,000 tons of CO2 equivalent per year — the equivalent of removing approximately 125,000 cars from the road
