Located on Florida International University’s Modesto A. Maidique campus, a new $212-million academic health sciences and clinical facility is planned as a collaboration between FIU, South Florida’s public research university and Baptist Health South Florida.
The facility will serve as a hub for clinical, research and educational activities. Stantec will be providing architecture, medical planning, landscape architecture, sustainability consulting and other specialty services; joint-venture team Robins & Morton and Thornton Construction Company are serving as construction manager at risk.
The state of Florida is anticipating a shortfall of 18,000 physicians by 2035. The FIU Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine’s alliance with Baptist Health is addressing this physician shortage with plans to create at least 22 graduate medical education programs targeting specialty areas experiencing a supply-and-demand gap. This partnership is a first of its kind for both FIU and Baptist Health, and will provide direct outpatient clinical health services to the surrounding community.
The design of the new facility will capture the brand aesthetic and embrace the ideals of FIU and Baptist Health to support the cohesive partnership.
Schematic design kicked off in January 2025, with construction completion expected in 2028.
