Clark Construction, joint venture partner Blinderman Construction and the Naval Facilities Engineering Command celebrated the start of work at the P-714 Unaccompanied Housing Project with a groundbreaking ceremony. The Design-Build project, located at Naval Station Great Lakes in Chicago, Illinois, will feature a new 166,000-square-foot barracks capable of housing more than 600 enlisted military personnel. Opened in 1911, the NSGL is the Navy’s largest training installation and the home of the Navy’s only Boot Camp. Study Finds Upward Trend in Elevator-Related Construction Fatalities
Workers are at risk of serious injury or death when installing, repairing and maintaining escalators and elevators, as well as when cleaning elevator shafts, conducting emergency evacuations of stalled elevators or performing construction work near open shafts. A recent study by CPWR’s Data Center found that while fatalities fluctuate year-to-year, the general trend in elevator-related deaths has been upward. According to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of deaths doubled from 14 in 2003 to 28 in 2016, with a peak of 37 deaths in 2015. Haselden Construction recently celebrated the topping out of One Snowmass in Snowmass Village, Colorado. The new two-building resort will offer 41 whole and fractional ownership condos with sweeping views of the Roaring Fork Valley and an abundance of amenities. Swinerton has completed construction of the Great Park Ice and Fivepoint Arena in Irvine, California. Located in Orange County Great Park, the ice complex is the county’s first ice rink in 20 years and will house four rinks – three NHL rinks and one Olympic-sized rink. It will serve as the new training facility for the Anaheim Ducks National Hockey League team, as well as Olympic figure skating training.
