Balfour Beatty Completes £63M Rossall Coastal Defense Scheme

Balfour Beatty has successfully completed the £63-million Rossall coastal defense scheme for Wyre Council in partnership with the Environment Agency. The scheme, located in Lancashire, England, forms part of the largest-single investment in coastal flood defense by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. The scheme will protect the town’s tramway, hospital and schools whilst reducing flood risk to 7,500 nearby residential properties through two kilometres of sea defenses. Collaboration, Prefabrication Streamlined Construction of Finland’s New Children’s Hospital

Construction of the New Children’s Hospital at Meilahti, Helsinki has been completed. The project’s main contractor, SRV, has handed over the hospital to its future user, the Hospital District of Helsinki and Uusimaa, two months ahead of schedule. The original target date for completion was the end of June. An independent panel of judges on behalf of the Steel Erectors Association of America selected three steel construction projects for the association’s annual Projects of the Year. Teams from Gardner-Watson Decking (Class I for erection contracts up to $500,000), Buckner Companies (Class III above $1 million to $2.5 million) and J.P.
