British Antarctic Survey Project Underway on New Building

Construction has begun in Antarctica for the British Antarctic Survey, with specialists arriving at Rothera Research Station to progress several projects to secure the future of polar operations and research. In a first for the Antarctic Infrastructure Modernisation Programme, some of the construction team, along with BAS team members, will be working through the Austral or Antarctic winter, known as “wintering.” This will see eight construction team members stationed at Rothera for seven months during Antarctica’s winter season from May through November, in which some periods are spent in 24-hour darkness, with harsh polar weather. Falls and Ladder Misuse Fill Three of OSHA’s Top 10 Safety Violations

It’s a streak no one should be happy about. For the 13th year in a row, fall protection (general requirements) is OSHA’s No. 1 safety violation. Additionally, ladders came in third and fall protection (training requirements) was eighth in the agency’s annual list of its Top 10 violations. The list was revealed this fall at the National Safety Council Safety Congress & Expo and covers fiscal year 2023. Work Begins on $225M Permian Basin Behavioral Health Center

Work has begun on the new Permian Basin Behavioral Health Center in Midland, Texas. The 200-bed, $225-million facility, which will be built on a 54-acre site, will offer short- and long-term treatment for psychiatric patients of all ages. It will include a crisis stabilization unit, an outpatient center, state-of-the-art amenities and a community education center. The facility is being developed by the Texas Facilities Commission and will be operated by a new entity co-sponsored by Midland County Hospital District and Ector County Hospital District. Ground Broken on $131M Project at University of Texas at San Antonio

Groundbreaking was celebrated at the University of Texas at San Antonio’s Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Careers building, also known as San Pedro II.
