Survey Says: ABC Members Invested $1.3B in Construction Workforce Education in 2020

According to the results of the Associated Builders and Contractors 2021 Workforce Development Survey, ABC contractor members invested $1.3 billion in workforce development initiatives in 2020, providing craft, leadership and safety education to 500,000 course attendees to advance their careers in commercial and industrial construction. ASCE Seeks Comments on Supplement to Professional Standard

The American Society of Civil Engineers will conduct a public comment period on Supplement 3 for ASCE/SEI 7-16, Minimum Design Loads and Associated Criteria for Buildings and Other Structures. The ASCE public comment period is being held from May 21- July 11. This Supplement updates section 11.4.8 provisions and commentary of the standard: Section 11.4.8 Site-Specific Ground Motion Procedures, with Table 11.4-1 Short-Period Site and Table 11.4-2 Long-Period Site also includes Chapter 11 Commentary, Section C11.4.8 are revised in this supplement.   To participate in the public comment period, contact James Neckel, ASCE’s codes and standards coordinator, at jneckel@asce.org or 703-295-6176.

Steel Erectors Contribute to Community Revitalization Projects

Seven steel erection companies have been named as recipients in the annual Project of the Year awards by the Steel Erectors Association of America. One winner was selected in each of four categories based on the dollar amount of the erection contract. In addition, three companies received Honorable Mention. Categories are Class I up to $500,000; Class II $500,000 to $1 million; Class III $1-2.5 million and Class IV over $2.5 million. Licensing Agreement Brings New CSP Samples to Concrete Repair Industry

The International Concrete Repair Institute, the only association in the concrete industry devoted solely to repair and restoration, announces a new licensing agreement with Technical Applications for Concrete Materials. This agreement gives rights to the usage of the industry standard trademarked ICRI Concrete Surface Profiles, CSP. Referencing ICRI Guideline 310.2R-2013, TACM has developed a process to manufacture concrete samples that are comparative to ICRI’s “rubber chips.”   The ICRI CSP chips were introduced to the repair industry in 1997.
