ATLANTA, Ga. – The Construction Management Association of America has awarded the Winter Johnson Group two Project Achievement awards for the construction of the new Metropolitan Library, a branch library on the south side of Atlanta, Georgia. The Winter Johnson Group built the new branch library on the former site of the Capital View Baptist Church, which the neighboring communities viewed as an important landmark. AGC Launches New Construction-Focused Podcast
AGC of America recently launched ConstructorCast, its new monthly podcast that explores in depth issues affecting the construction industry. For each episode, an AGC representative will speak with a different authority on today’s topics including public policy, safety and health, labor and many more. In the first episode, the organization speaks with David Ashinoff, director of AGC’s PAC and Political Advocacy, about the 2016 elections. CPWR Toolbox Talks: Now en Español
The Center for Construction Research and Training’s 52 toolbox talk series is now available in Spanish, alongside English-language counterparts on the CPWR website, thanks to a collaborative effort with the American Society of Safety Engineers. This series, a collaboration in content development with NIOSH, has been available in English for over two years and is widely used on construction sites across the country. These free toolbox talks incorporate effective training elements, identified through NIOSH research, including case studies, discussion questions and site-specific actions to promote a safety culture, and provide a year’s worth of content for safety on the jobsite. … Read more
New Construction Starts in April Slide 8 Percent
NEW YORK, New York – The value of new construction starts in April fell 8 percent from the previous month to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $608.3 billion, according to Dodge Data & Analytics. Nonresidential building pulled back following its sharp March increase and the non-building construction sector showed improvement, with public works strengthening after its lackluster March performance. Through the first four months of 2016, total construction starts on an unadjusted basis were reported at $198.4 billion, down 12 percent from the same month a year ago.
