CHICAGO, Ill. – The Construction Management Association of America has named a new runway built at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago, Illinois, as 2016 Project of the Year. The award for runway 10R-28L was presented to the Chicago Department of Aviation and WSP|Parsons Brinckerhoff in October at the 2016 CMAA National Conference and Trade Show Industry Recognition Dinner. The runway also received CMAA’s Project Achievement Award for infrastructure with constructed value greater than $150 million. Hensel Phelps Awarded UTEP Interdisciplinary Research Building Project
Hensel Phelps has been awarded the University of Texas at El Paso Interdisciplinary Research Building project in El Paso, Texas. This project includes the construction of a new 150,000-square-foot building to replace two underutilized buildings. It will provide critically needed space to continue expanding the number of fast-growing, multidisciplinary research initiatives aligned with the priorities articulated in UTEP’s Research Strategic Plan. Additional scope will include expanding the thermal plant infrastructure, extending electrical and communication duct banks and other anticipated site improvements. Preconstruction started in August of 2016, with construction starting in March of 2017.
Skanska to Build New Dining Hall for James Madison University in Virginia
Skanska has signed a $42-million contract with James Madison University to construct its new dining hall in Harrisonburg, Virginia. The new dining hall will be located in the center of campus. With about 108,000 square feet, it will seat 1,500 students and faculty. This building is targeted for LEED Silver certification. Skanska began construction in May 2016. The project is slated for completion in summer 2018.
Sixth Street Viaduct Replacement Shifts to New Construction from Demolition
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Skanska its joint-venture partner Stacy and Witbeck will begin construction of foundations for the new Sixth Street Viaduct in Los Angeles, California, this this month. This is a significant milestone for the project which, until now, has primarily consisted of the demolition of the previous structure. Foundation work will commence immediately and conclude late in 2017. Numerous foundations will be drilled, utilizing thousands of cubic yards of concrete and millions of pounds of reinforcing steel. BNBuilders Awarded $23.8M UCLA Geffen Academy Project
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – BNBuilders was recently awarded the $23.8-million Geffen Academy project on the campus of UCLA in California. Geffen Academy is a new college preparatory school for students in grades 6-12 from across the greater Los Angeles area, including children of UCLA faculty and staff. The new school, which is also the first K-12 facility awarded to BNBuilders Southern California office, will offer a world-class education to more than 600 students when it opens in late 2018.
