Stephen E. Sandherr announces his retirement as CEO of the Associated General Contractors of America, effective March 31. Sandherr has been CEO of the association for the commercial construction industry for 27 years and has served it for 37 years in various capacities. The association’s current chief operating officer, Jeffrey Shoaf will serve as the association’s next CEO. Shoaf, who has been COO since 2017, joined AGC in 1994. Alamo Colleges First Responders Academy Opens in San Antonio
Future students and staff attended the grand opening of the new Alamo Colleges District San Antonio College First Responders Academy facility. The building, built by Gilbane Building Company, is slated to host its first class of students in the spring of 2024. The ground-up facility is anticipated to serve the growing population of San Antonio, Texas and meet the educational priorities of the surrounding community. Dodge Momentum Index: Nonresidential Planning Activity Remains Historically Elevated
The Dodge Momentum Index , issued by Dodge Construction Network, decreased 1% in November to 179.2 (2000=100) from the revised October reading of 181.7. Over the month, the commercial and institutional components both fell 1%. “While both portions of the Momentum Index saw slower momentum in planning, overall levels remain steady and will support construction spending in 2024 and 2025,” stated Sarah Martin, associate director of forecasting for DCN. “Nonresidential planning activity will remain constrained from stronger growth amidst ongoing labor and construction cost challenges.” Excluding data center activity, all commercial segments saw declines in November. Turner, JV Partner Walsh Construction Top Out $900M Hospital Project
Turner Construction Company and Joint Venture partner Walsh Construction celebrated the topping out of the $900-million Louisville VA Medical Center in Louisville, Kentucky. The ceremony was attended by Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, other state and local officials, and representatives of the Department of Veterans Affairs and the US Army Corps of Engineers.
