CONEXPO-CON/AGG Caps Mental Health Awareness Efforts with CIASP Donation

CONEXPO-CON/AGG is backing construction professionals during Mental Health Awareness Month with a $5,000 donation to the Construction Industry Alliance for Suicide Prevention. The money will be directed to its construction mental health support efforts. According to Kim MacDonald, CEO of 13 Factors for Business Growth and presenter on mental health in the construction industry at CONEXPO-CON/AGG, people need to look at the risk factors and hazards that exist in the work itself and address where possible, mitigate those risks. Logistics Property Company Breaks Ground on Oak Forest Logistics Center

Logistics Property Company has begun construction on a new logistics center in Oak Forest, Illinois. The nearly 665,000-square-foot development is located with immediate access to the I-57 four-way interchange at 167th Street, just two miles from the I-57 and I-80 interchange and three miles from I-294. Located 24 miles from downtown Chicago, the building will feature four drive-in doors, 117 exterior docks and parking for 116 trailers and more than 500 cars. AISC Releases New Seismic Standard for Existing Steel Buildings

A new standard, Seismic Provisions for Evaluation and Retrofit of Existing Structural Steel Buildings (ANSI/AISC 342-22), is now available as a free download from aisc.org/standards. The AISC Committee on Specifications developed and approved the document as a revision to the structural steel provisions in the 2017 edition of ASCE/SEI 41, Seismic Evaluation and Retrofit of Existing Buildings. The next release of that standard will likely adopt ANSI/AISC 342-22 in chapter 9. The document is free to download; a printed version will be available for purchase from aisc.org/publications this summer.

AISI Announces 2023 Market Development Awards

The American Iron and Steel Institute presented two awards to recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to advancing the competitive use of steel in the marketplace — specifically in the construction market.
