ASCC Announces Elected Officers of 2023

Chris Klemaske, Sundek National Accounts, has been elected president of the American Society of Concrete Contractors for 2023-24. Elected vice presidents were Paul Albanelli, Albanelli Cement Contractors; Anthony DeCarlo, Jr., TWC Concrete, LLC; Cory Lee, Martin Concrete; and Maizer Ouijdani, Conco. Aaron Gregory, Gregory Construction, was re-elected treasurer. Ray Merlo, Merlo Construction Co., and David Somero, S & S Concrete Floors, were re-elected directors. Building Talent Foundation has honored its 2022 Industry Champions, for their above-and-beyond commitment, contribution and collaboration in building a sustainable workforce in residential construction. BTF is a national nonprofit organization, established in 2019 by the Leading Builders of America to address the acute and persistent talent shortage across building trades. With an average of 400,000 job openings throughout 2022, and with 40% of the current workers expected to retire by 2031, the construction industry must invest in strengthening its workforce. ABC: Nonresidential Construction Spending Dips .5% in December

National nonresidential construction spending decreased by 0.5% in December, according to an Associated Builders and Contractors analysis of data published by the U.S. Census Bureau. On a seasonally adjusted annualized basis, nonresidential spending totaled $943.5 billion for the month. Spending fell on a monthly basis in 10 of the 16 nonresidential subcategories. Private nonresidential spending was down .5%, while public nonresidential construction spending was down .4% in December.

Gilbane, Leftfield, Studio G Architects Tops Off Florence Roche Elementary School

Officials from Groton Public Schools, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the Town of Groton joined students, educators and representatives from Leftfield, Studio G Architects and Gilbane Building Company to celebrate the official topping off of the 110,000-square-foot Florence Roche Elementary School. Designed by Studio G, with Leftfield serving as owner’s project manager and Gilbane as construction manager, the new facility will address growing concerns regarding the state of the existing facility, originally constructed in the 1950s, and accommodate 645 students in grades kindergarten through four. ViaWest, Willmeng Construction Break Ground on Sub-Zero Industrial Project

ViaWest Group began work in Goodyear, Arizona on the latest valley location for the Sub-Zero Group, Inc., which, at completion, will total more than 1 million square feet of manufacturing space in Goodyear for the major kitchen appliance company.   ViaWest Group, Scottsdale Investment Management and their building partners Willmeng Construction, DLR Group and Kimley-Horn, broke ground on the 599,351 square foot build-to-suit industrial warehouse that is the third facility the company operates in the West Valley.    Madison, Wisconsin-based Sub-Zero currently has locations at 3865 W Van Buren and 4295 N Cotton Lane in Goodyear.
