MCA Releases 2021 Annual Report

The Metal Construction Association has released its 2021 annual report. The report includes chapters detailing the demand for metal construction, best practices and industry standards, and the work of the association’s alliances, committees and councils.  All are working to strengthen the awareness, use and safety standards of the metal construction industry. MCA’s vast range of programs, resources and services are detailed in the report. The report is available at metalconstruction.org/2021-annual-report.

Gilbane, City of Orlando Celebrate Grand Avenue Neighborhood Center Opening

Gilbane Building Company has completed the renovation and expansion of the new Grand Avenue Neighborhood Center for the City of Orlando, Florida. Gilbane partnered with Borrelli + Partners and JCB Construction to provide Design-Build services to expand and renovate an existing 1926 Mediterranean revival architecture building that originally served the community as a school. In 1995, the building was designated as a historic landmark. Construction Job Openings Increased in March; Demand for Labor Remains Strong

The construction industry had 396,000 job openings in March, according to an Associated Builders and Contractors analysis of data released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Industry job openings increased by 13,000 in March and are up 60,000 from the same time last year. Construction workers quit their jobs at a faster rate than they were laid off or discharged in March, with the quits rate of 3.2% well above the layoffs and discharges rate of 1.6%. S. M. Wilson & Co. Promotes Jeremy Hutfles to Assistant Superintendent

S. M. Wilson has promoted Jeremy Hutfles to assistant superintendent. In his new role, Hutfles coordinates and manages all day-to-day onsite operations, coordinates with subcontractors and suppliers, and communicates with owners and architects. Hutfles is working on the University of Missouri St. Louis College of Nursing project. He will be onsite during the entire construction phase. Hutfles joined S. M. Wilson last year and has over 17 years of experience in construction. Most recently, he was assigned to the Target remodel in Jefferson City, Missouri. He is OSHA certified in 30-Hour Construction Safety and Health for Construction Industry.

2022 World of Modular Returns in Hybrid Fashion

After being all-digital in 2021 due to COVID concerns, the Modular Building Institute’s 2022 World of Modular conference and tradeshow returned and attracted over 1,000 in-person and digital attendees from more than 20 countries. The modular building industry event drew modular construction professionals to network, exchange ideas, learn from experts, discuss issues, and receive recognition at the La Cantera Resort & Spa in San Antonio, Texas.
