Construction Safety Week kicks off at construction sites across U.S and Canada on May 2. As pandemic restrictions have eased, safety week will be holding more in-person events, including celebrations near O’Hare Airport in Chicago, Illinois and Centene Stadium in St. Loui, Missouri. This year’s theme is “Connected. Supported. Safe.” This reflects the enduring connection workers and leaders have to each other across the industry. United States’ Largest State Public Health Laboratory Is Critical in the Fight Against COVID

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced the award of an initial design contract to advance the creation of a new $750-million public health laboratory on the Harriman State Office Campus Complex in Albany to serve New York State’s public health needs. The joint venture of Gilbane/Turner in association with the design firm HOK has been selected for the design and construction of a new Wadsworth Laboratory that will seek to consolidate operations spread out among several Capital Region facilities. Equipment Leasing and Finance Association’s Survey of Economic Activity: Monthly Leasing and Finance Index

The Equipment Leasing and Finance Association’s Monthly Leasing and Finance Index showed its overall new business volume for March was $10.6 billion, up 14% year-over-year from new business volume in March 2021. Volume was up 49% month-to-month from $7.1 billion in February. Year-to-date, cumulative new business volume was up 5% compared to 2021. Receivables over 30 days were 1.5%, down from 1.7% the previous month and down from 1.9% in the same period in 2021. AISC Celebrates Earth Day with Updated EPDs

To help celebrate Earth Day, the domestic structural steel industry has issued updated environmental product declarations to help designers and building owners design more environmentally friendly buildings and bridges. The American Institute of Steel Construction develops industry-average EPDs for three products: fabricated hot-rolled structural sections, fabricated steel plate, and fabricated hollow structural sections, with the latter developed in conjunction with the Steel Tube Institute. These documents are designed to facilitate an accurate, apples-to-apples comparison of the structural materials on the market today.
