April Construction Employment Remains Below Pre-Pandemic Peak in 36 States, Reports AGC

Construction employment in April remained below the pre-pandemic high set in February 2020 in 36 states and the District of Columbia, despite increases from March to April in 26 states, according to a recently released analysis by the Associated General Contractors of America of government employment data. Green Building Initiative announces the first comment period is open through July 5 on GBI’s Green Globes for Existing Buildings 2021 or, the draft standard titled BSR/GBI 02-202x, Green Globes Assessment Protocol for Existing Buildings. The draft standard supports assessment of sustainability, health and wellness and resilience of existing buildings and will be refined through public participation over two to three years. National Construction Company Robins & Morton Opens New Tampa Office

National general contractor and construction management firm, Robins & Morton, recently opened its new Tampa, Florida office. Robins & Morton has worked in Tampa for more than 40 years and has more than $880 million of completed and in-progress work throughout the city in the last ten years – including major healthcare projects for clients such as AdventHealth, Baycare and Tampa Community Hospital. This is the contractor’s third office in Florida, preceded by its Orlando and Miami locations, established in 1999 and 2015.

Classic Hilton Head Restaurant Set for Major Facelift

The Quarterdeck Restaurant on the Sea Pines Resort on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, for decades has been a staple for visitors and local residents. It will now stand to exist for many more thanks to a major construction project underway. The Sea Pines Resort engaged JE Dunn Construction to helm the project, which includes the demolition of the original structure, followed by the construction of the new Quarterdeck Restaurant, designed by Hart Howerton. Skanska has been selected to build Radford University’s new Center for Adaptive Innovation and Creativity. Located in Radford, Virginia, the $80.5-million, 177,917-square-foot building will replace the existing space for the College of Visual and Performing Arts and create interdisciplinary student spaces.
