JLL Launches 2022 Construction Outlook

The construction industry entered 2022 alongside broad economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, with an outlook tempered by record high materials costs, construction labor shortages and continuing supply chain disruptions. Hopes for a near-term return to normal were dashed by the Russian invasion of Ukraine late in the first quarter, as the conflict and global economic sanctions have further disrupted critical material markets. Jennifer Macks Tapped to Expand Gilbane Building Company’s Global Design-Build Capabilities

Jennifer Macks has been promoted to vice president and director of Design-Build at Gilbane Building Company. In this newly created position, she will lead the company’s Design-Build program, working in partnership with project teams across the company. After leading Gilbane’s internal Design-Build initiative for the last two years, Macks and her team have implemented procedures for Design-Build project delivery and begun development of a specialized training curriculum for employees. Virtual Design & Construction on the Bellvue Water Treatment Plant – Package B Project and Beyond

On the $25-million Bellvue Water Treatment Plant – Package B project, Hensel Phelps built a virtual as-built of the project through the use of laser scanning technology. The virtual as-built was used to provide the owner, the city of Greeley, an exact replica of the plant for future use. Hensel Phelps also used the virtual as-built model to print a physical model (pictured above). Gilbane Building Company provided construction management services for the installation and occupancy of 20 prefabricated cottages manufactured by Pallet Shelters and procured through DCAMM and the Executive Office of Health and Human Services. The scope of work included all site preparation and utilities work, concrete foundations, permanent electrical, plumbing, and fire alarm systems, as well as hardscape and paving, landscaping, painting, and miscellaneous site furnishings. The erection of this low-threshold transitional housing on the campus of the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital in Jamaica Plain provides shelter and support services for individuals struggling with homelessness. New Highland Public Safety Building to House Police, Fire and EMS Under One Roof

S. M. Wilson & Co. has completed the new $6.8-million Highland Public Safety Building in Highland, Illinois. The 31,000-square-foot facility houses the city’s police, fire and emergency medical services departments under one roof, including a communications, reception and data center. The new facility will allow the city’s emergency services to double its capacity to meet increased demand in the future. S. M.
