Construction Backlog and Contractor Optimism Rise to Start 2021, According to ABC Member Survey

Associated Builders and Contractors reported today that its Construction Backlog Indicator rose to 7.5 months in January 2021, an increase of 0.2 months from its December 2020 reading, according to an ABC member survey conducted from Jan. 20 to Feb. 2. Despite the monthly uptick, backlog is 0.9 months lower than in January 2020. ABC’s Construction Confidence Index readings for sales and staffing levels increased in January and remain above the threshold of 50, indicating expectations of growth over the next six months. National Struck-by Stand-Down Planned for April 26

CPWR and the NORA Construction Sector Council are planning a second annual Stand-Down to Prevent Struck-by Incidents in Construction for April 26. The Stand-Down, to take place on the first day of National Work Zone Awareness Week (April 26-30), asks contractors to pause work to recognize that struck-by incidents are a leading cause of death among construction workers and to educate their crews about risks and solutions for mitigating them. Construction Complete on Hubbard Bypass Project in Waco

The Texas Department of Transportation State Highway 31 (SH-31) bypass project, located 30 miles east of Waco, Texas, has been completed. Sundt Construction, Inc. served as general contractor. “With record rainfall and a remote site, our project team displayed tremendous grit to complete this project on schedule,” said Joe Dooley, vice president and Texas regional director for the Transportation Group. “The bypass allows traffic an alternate route to bypass downtown, providing relief for its residents and convenience for those passing by.” The $63.9-million project improved nearly 10 miles of SH-31.
