The Marcum Commercial Construction Index for the second quarter of 2020 reports the industry is holding relatively well in the face of the COVID-19-driven recession. Construction employment has rebounded since plummeting in March and April, and the industry’s unemployment rate stands at 8.9%, below the 10.2% rate observed across all industries. The index is produced by Marcum’s National Construction Services group. “The data indicate that construction has recovered faster than any other major economic segment. First Multifamily Modular Construction Project Delivered in Washington, D.C. Petworth Area
The Modular Mobilization Coalition recently delivered the first multifamily modular construction project in the Petworth area of Washington, D.C. The Petworth Modo project consists of 44 modular units that will be stacked into a five-story building containing 16 apartments. The building is anticipated to be move-in ready by the end of 2020. The modular project is expected to be completed in 10 months, compared to a 12-16-month timeline using traditional site-built construction methods. Heartis Buckhead, a 19-story, 278,000-square-foot luxury senior living high-rise in the Buckhead area of Atlanta, Georgia, has bottomed out following the completion of extensive excavation and shoring activities on the below-grade portion of the project’s parking deck.
