Dodge Construction Network: Construction Starts Grew 16% in June

Total construction starts were up 16% in June to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $1.33 trillion, according to Dodge Construction Network. Nonresidential building starts improved by 39%, residential starts fell 1%, and nonbuilding starts grew 2% over the month. On a year-to-date basis through June, total construction starts were up 1% from last year. Construction Hiring Remains Subdued in June

The construction industry had 246,000 job openings on the last day of June, according to an Associated Builders and Contractors analysis of data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey. JOLTS defines a job opening as any unfilled position for which an employer is actively recruiting. Ryan Companies US, Inc., in partnership with Exalt Health, has announced plans to develop a new inpatient rehabilitation facility in Riverview, Florida. The 40,000-square-foot facility will offer 40 beds and provide intensive physical, occupational and speech therapy services to patients with complex medical conditions. Spending on Nonresidential Building Construction Continues to Slow

Spending on nonresidential construction is projected to increase only 1.7% this year and grow very modestly to just 2% next year, according to The American Institute of Architects mid-year Consensus Construction Forecast. The outlook by the AIA Consensus Construction Forecast estimates the commercial sector outlook is about on par with the broader industry, with a projected 1.5% increase this year rising to 3.9% in 2026.
