WASHINGTON, D.C. – After seeing consecutive months of contracting demand for the first time in four years, the Architecture Billings Index saw a modest increase demand for design services. As a leading economic indicator of construction activity, the ABI reflects the approximate 9-12-month lead time between architecture billings and construction spending. The American Institute of Architects reported the October ABI score was 50.8, up from the mark of 48.4 in the previous month. Sundt Celebrates Completion of Hausman Road Improvement Project
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Sundt Construction, Inc. recently celebrated the completion of the city of San Antonio, Texas’ first Design-Build road improvement project during a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Hausman Road. The major thoroughfare connects Loop 1604 to Interstate 10. The project also incorporated two Bexar County road projects at two stages of design and all public utilities work along the roadway. Nonresidential Construction Spending Down in September, August Data Upwardly Revised
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Nonresidential construction spending fell 0.9 percent from August to September 2016, according to an analysis of U.S. Census Bureau data released by Associated Builders and Contractors. Nonresidential spending totaled $690.5 billion on a seasonally adjusted, annualized basis for the month, 0.7 percent below September 2015’s figure. The government revised the August nonresidential construction spending estimate from $686.6 billion to $696.6 billion; otherwise September spending would have risen on a month-over-month basis. Hensel Phelps Awarded Operational Support Facility at MacDill AFB
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Mobile District recently awarded Hensel Phelps the Operational Support Facility project at MacDill Air Force Base near Tampa, Florida. The project involves construction of a 37,000-square-foot, two-story cast-in-place Central Energy Plant that consolidates and provides all heating, ventilation, air conditioning, fire suppression, fire alarm, mass notification, closed-circuit television, intrusion detection, generators and switchgears to support the United States Special Operations Command and its mission supporting special operations around the globe. Nonresidential Fixed Investment Expands Again During Solid Third Quarter, ABC Reports
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Real gross domestic product expanded 2.9 percent on a seasonally adjusted annualized rate during the third quarter of 2016, according to an analysis of Bureau of Economic Analysis data recently released by Associated Builders and Contractors. This follows a 1.4 percent increase during the second quarter and represents the tenth consecutive quarter of economic expansion.
