Construction Employment Increases In 40 States From September 2023 To September 2024

Construction employment increased in 40 states in September from a year earlier, while 24 states and the District of Columbia added construction jobs between August and September, according to a new analysis of federal employment data released by the Associated General Contractors of America. Association officials said even more states would have added workers if contractors could find enough qualified applicants. Construction Backlog Indicator Rebounds in September, Contractor Confidence Improves

Associated Builders and Contractors reported that its Construction Backlog Indicator increased to 8.6 months in September, according to an ABC member survey conducted Sept. 20-Oct. 4. The reading is down .4 months from September 2023. Backlog increased in every region except for the Northeast in September. On a year-over-year basis, however, only the Middle States have longer backlog than one year ago. Skanska Completes North Carolina Surgical Hospital in Chapel Hill

UNC Health’s North Carolina Surgical Hospital has been completed. Rising seven-stories and spanning 375,000 square feet, Surgical Hospital is the largest addition to the Chapel Hill campus since it was built in 1952. Designed by Page and built by Skanska, the new surgical hospital offers 26 operating rooms, four of which are hybrid size operating rooms to accommodate additional equipment and technology for newly developed procedures, 59 pre- and post-operating rooms ,as well as two floors of ICU space with 80 beds.
