The American Iron and Steel Institute has published AISI D114-21, “Cold-Formed Steel Clip Angle Design Guide, 2021 Edition,” a new publication that provides practical guidance on the design of cold-formed steel clip angles based on research performed at the University of North Texas. Cold-formed steel clip angles are commonly used to connect CFS framing members in light-frame steel buildings or to attach secondary structural components in a conventional structural steel frame or reinforced concrete frame building. AISI D114-21 provides methods that are applicable for those clip angles that are used to transfer shear, compression, tension or a combination of these … Read more

AISI Standards Council Seeks Proposals for Small Projects, Fellowships to be Awarded in 2022
The American Iron and Steel Institute Standards Council is seeking research proposals for its 2022 Small Project/Fellowship Program. Launched in 2014, AISI’s Small Project/Fellowship Program identifies and provides funding for research projects that will significantly impact the reliability, performance and cost-competitiveness of cold-formed steel products. The program provides a streamlined mechanism for AISI’s standards development committees (the Committee on Specifications and the Committee on Framing Standards), industry stakeholders, academics and students to collaborate on relatively short-term, highly focused and mutually beneficial projects. The small project and fellowship requests should be developed and submitted by a project team that includes a … Read more
American Iron and Steel Institute Publishes New Standard
The American Iron and Steel Institute has published AISI S250-21, North American Standard for Thermal Transmittance of Building Envelopes With Cold-Formed Steel Framing, 2021 Edition, as a single source for calculating the thermal transmittance of walls and ceiling/roof envelope assembles that contain cold-formed steel framing. The standard is intended for adoption and use in the United States, Canada and Mexico and is available for free download at www.aisistandards.org. AISI S250-21 was developed to eventually supersede the many methods currently found in various energy codes and standards, most of which are limited to calculating wall assemblies at 16 or 24 inches … Read more
