Alternate Care Facility Project Finishes in 22 Days for COVID-19 Patients Near Chicago

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, in collaboration with Clark Construction Group and Perkins and Will, has successfully transformed the MetroSouth Medical Center—a shuttered hospital south of Chicago, Illinois—into an alternate care facility to treat COVID-19 patients. The re-activated facility provides 585 surge beds, including 265 high-acuity beds to support critically ill patients. Work on the fast-track project began March 30 and was completed in 22 days. Joint-Venture Tops Out Acute Care Hospital Wing Expansion

The topping out of Orohealth’s new hospital tower, located in Oroville, California, was recently celebrated. The project team includes joint-venture partners Sundt Construction, Inc. and Modern Building, Inc., with CannonDesign serving as architect of record. The 159,751-square-foot expansion will add a five-story wing to the existing hospital and connect at the first and second floors. Nonresidential Construction Spending Falls Slightly in March, Says ABC

National nonresidential construction spending fell 0.1% in March and is up 2.0% compared to the same time last year, according to an Associated Builders and Contractors analysis of data recently published by the U.S. Census Bureau. On a seasonally adjusted annualized basis, spending totaled $802.6 billion for the month. Among 16 nonresidential subcategories, 12 experienced a decline in spending on a monthly basis. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Holt Construction Collaborate to Build Temporary Hospital

Together with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Bergen County and FEMA, Holt Construction completed a temporary hospital in just two weeks at Bergen New Bridge Medical Center in Paramus, New Jersey. The two fully equipped tents, the first of its kind for Army Corps temporary facility construction standards, will serve as a treatment facility for acute, non-COVID-related patients due to the influx of COVID-positive patients in the main building.
