Construction has been completed on the historic renovation of Paradise, located in Toronto, Ontario. Ware Malcomb provided architecture and interior design services for the project, and Northern Structures Limited served as general contractor. Originally opened in 1937 in Toronto’s Bloorcourt neighborhood, the heritage-designated Paradise building recently reopened following the renovation. The project involved converting the existing theatre into a multi-functional venue, including a theatre, restaurant and bar. The California Preservation Foundation 2019 Preservation Design Award for Technology and Craftsmanship was presented to Western Specialty Contractors for its role in conserving the Streamline Moderne facades of the Saban Building in Los Angeles, California. Award recipients were selected by a jury of top professionals in the fields of architecture, engineering, planning and history, as well as architecture critics and journalists. UC Los Angeles, California, has selected BNBuilders to provide extensive renovations to the campus’ Botany Building. The $27-million project, designed by CO Architects, comes on the heels of BNBuilders’ recent $6-million renovations to UC Los Angeles’ Agoura Road medical suites and the $23.8-million Geffen Academy renovation in the campus’ Kinross Building. An seismic renovation of the Robert A. Young Federal Building—one of downtown St. Louis, Missouri’s largest office buildings—has been completed to improve the historic structure’s seismic performance. The McCarthy Building Companies’-led Design-Build project team included Gensler (lead designer and architect of record), Etegra (associate architect) and Thornton Tomasetti (structural engineer). Other project team members included William Tao & Associates, Integrated Facility Services, Aschinger Electric and Wilson’s Structural Steel.
