Balfour Beatty recently completed the new temporary NHS Scotland Hospital, NHS Louisa Jordan, at Glasgow’s Scottish Events Campus, on behalf of the Scottish Government.
Acting as principal contractor, Balfour Beatty completed construction, along with its local supply chain and partner contractors, in just 20 days. The clinical facility, which has been constructed to provide extra patient capacity, will provide 1,036 beds for COVID-19 patients, should NHS Scotland require additional flexibility during the pandemic.
Construction included the building of sterile temporary wards, installing and commissioning life-saving oxygen and gas systems, as well as laying 23,000 square meters of vinyl flooring. Balfour Beatty Kilpatrick supported the delivery of the mechanical and electrical engineering works, which included the installation of 220,000 meters of fiber optic and structured cabling, 35,000 meters of network cabling for the nurse call system, 2,200 patient call devices and 1,144 oxygen outlet points.
All works were carried out in accordance with the site operating procedures, which ensured the health, safety and well-being of all those involved in the project.
