Skanska Completes New South Central Regional Health Office in Columbia

The Nashville area office of Skanska USA has completed the new South Central Regional Health Office, a facility that includes expanded clinic, laboratory, warehouse and administrative space and will support public health operations and emergency response efforts across a 13-county region.

Skanska began construction in October 2024 and completed the new 16,552-square-foot regional health office on a greenfield site. The facility replaces a health office originally built in 1970 and provides modernized space to support healthcare delivery, public health operations and emergency preparedness efforts throughout the region. The new facility includes three exam rooms, a laboratory, an X-ray room and approximately 2,500 square feet of warehouse space for medical supplies and emergency response resources.

The $14.1 million project also included EV charging stations, expanded parking, new access drives and supporting infrastructure designed to accommodate future campus growth.

The project team included the Tennessee Department of General Services as owner, TMPartners as architect and Skanska as general contractor.

On Aug. 21, the Tennessee Department of General Services hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house to celebrate the facility’s completion. Regional Director Ami Mitchell, Health Commissioner Dr. John Dunn, Senator Ed Jackson, Senator Joey Hensley, Deputy Commissioner of STREAM John Hull and Regional Medical Director Dr. Tadd Thompson joined for the ceremonial ribbon cutting, followed by tours of the new facility. Community members also had the opportunity to learn more about the health office’s services and meet staff and partner organizations.
