Construction of the largest home for engineering in any UK university has been completed. Delivered by a collaborative team of builders, architects and engineers, Manchester Engineering Campus Development represents the single-largest construction project ever completed by a higher education institution in the UK. Building design was undertaken by Mecanoo with support from Penoyre & Prasad, with detailed design during the technical and construction stages by BDP, and multidisciplinary engineering services provided by Arup. For the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities, the BESIX-Orascom Construction joint venture, with the support of its subcontractor Sarens and in cooperation with the Egyptian authorities, has carried out the transport of the King Khufu Solar Boat from the archaeological site of the Giza pyramids to a dedicated building within the Grand Egyptian Museum, located in al-Giza, Egypt. Inherited from ancient Egypt, the King Khufu Solar Boat is considered to be the oldest intact ship in the world. Recent drivers using Scotland’s busiest motorway were the first to drive under the new iconic footbridge successfully installed by BAM Nuttall. The 14-hour closure of the M8 motorway commenced with BAM Nuttall, and specialists Mammoet, driving the main span of the 2,420 ton structure down the M8 and into its final location. Moving the unusually shaped 58-meter hourglass structure required meticulous planning to manage a range of challenges. Construction of Africa’s Tallest Tower Begins

Besix has been awarded a contract for the construction of the new 282-meter-tall F Tower, the sixth skyscraper in the business district of the city of Abidjan, southeast of the Ivory Coast. When completed, the F Tower will reportedly be Africa’s tallest tower. Besix will be handling site management, as well as civil engineering works, which begin this month on the basis of the existing foundations.
