Research Reveals Root Causes Behind Construction Project Delays

New research from STARC Systems, developed in partnership with Construction Dive, reveals that project delays have become the norm across the construction industry — and that many of the most impactful causes are preventable. Based on a survey of 150 construction leaders, the report finds that only one in three contractors say most of their projects start on time, while more than half of delays last one to three months or longer. A concourse expansion project at Myrtle Beach International Airport in South Carolina is complete. The project team, which included JE Dunn Construction/Southside Constructors joint venture and Gresham Smith, recently celebrated the occasion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. During the event, organizers unveiled an 18-inch commemorative plaque, recognizing JE Dunn and Southside as an “Additional Partner” in this transformative project. The final beam for the University of Georgia School of Medicine’s medical education and research building was recently set into place — a milestone that marks the completion of the structural phase of the building. UGA broke ground on the building in May 2024. Turner Construction Company is serving as the general contractor on the project. McShane Construction Company was selected by The Atlantic Companies to build a 278-unit workforce housing community in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Located on a 7.3-acre site, the development will bring modern homes to a location along the Tennessee River.
