The 7th National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls, postponed from its original May date due to the coronavirus pandemic, has been rescheduled for the week of Sept. 14-18. The annual Stand-Down is part of the OSHA-NIOSH-CPWR Campaign to Prevent Falls in Construction and serves as an opportunity to pause and re-focus on falls — one of the leading causes of death in construction. Report Reveals Commercial Construction Index Drops Amid Coronavirus Pandemic
The recently released Q2 2020 USG Corporation + U.S. Chamber of Commerce Commercial Construction Index plunged from 74 in Q1 to 56 in Q2. Two of the index’s three main indicators—confidence in new business and revenue expectations—both fell 26 points, to 50 and 44, respectively, revealing the severe impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the construction industry. However, the third indicator, backlog, dropped only a modest three points, remaining consistent with the first half of 2018. A consortium led by Bouygues Bâtiment Ile-de-France, in association with Bouygues Energies & Services, two subsidiaries of Bouygues Construction, have been awarded a contract with the City of Paris, France for the Porte de la Chapelle Arena project—a sports facility in the new district that will be a key infrastructure for the 2024 Summer Olympics, which will happen in Paris. Esh Construction has recently completed a multi-million-pound refurbishment project at Beddell House in County Durham, located in England. Esh Living, the affordable housing delivery arm of Esh Construction, completed work to restore the Grade II-listed residential care home in Sherburn earlier this year, with the two-and-a-half-year project for Sherburn House Charity Ltd. Wave, an office building under construction by Skanska in Gdansk, Poland, has been granted approval for use. It offers nearly 25,000 square meters of innovative and sustainable office space. Wave will be the first office building in the Tri-City to apply for the demanding WELL Core&Shell certificate.
