The American Wood Council has released a national Mass Timber Alternative Materials and Methods Guide for use with the 2018 International Building Code. Stone Martin Commercial, a division of Stone Martin Builders, recently completed construction on its first ground-up build project — the Wyndham Industrial Warehouse in Opelika, Alabama. This achievement signifies the builder’s expansion into the commercial construction sector. The 18,000-square-foot industrial warehouse located on Wyndham Industrial Drive is priced at $1.8 million. The project includes 18-foot ceilings, one dock-high door/loading zone and four drive-in grade-level doors, and took six months to complete. Located on Florida International University’s Modesto A. Maidique campus, a new $212-million academic health sciences and clinical facility is planned as a collaboration between FIU, South Florida’s public research university and Baptist Health South Florida. The facility will serve as a hub for clinical, research and educational activities. New Survey Lists Toughest Jobs in America
Construction workers, firefighters, military personnel and doctors — these are the “toughest jobs in America,” according to a new survey. The poll included 2,000 Americans (1,000 of whom are trade workers), asking respondents what they believe the “toughest” jobs are and what comes to mind when they think of “tough jobs.” Police officers ranked No. 5, followed by EMTs and astronauts.
