The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and Bechtel recently entered a multiyear partnership dedicated to saving lives in the construction community lost to suicide. The new partnership will reach 500,000 U.S. construction workers over five years through industry-specific programs and resources developed by AFSP and Bechtel. The general contractor’s $7-million commitment to AFSP will fund the effort and is the largest-ever pledge received by AFSP. Construction of Halo Contributes to Enhancing Mobility in Vigo, Spain

Ferrovial, in consortium with Galician construction company Oreco Balgón, has completed construction of the Halo elevator in Vigo, northwestern Spain, which connects the city’s Areal district with the shopping area around Vialia square. This functional infrastructure, which has been inaugurated recently, improves mobility by providing pedestrians with a means of crossing the AP-9 highway, formerly a barrier, and enabling them to access the train and bus stations. Esh Construction has commenced work to transform an existing factory unit into a Construction Centre of Excellence in Langley Moor (England). Working in partnership with New College Durham, the £1.7-million project will see a change of use refurbishment delivered to create a specialized teaching facility for trade subjects.
