Construction Underway of $110-Million Modernization of Big Ten Basketball Arena

CHICAGO, Ill. – Mortenson Construction has been selected to transform Welsh-Ryan Arena into a world-class playing and practice facility for Northwestern University’s basketball, volleyball and wrestling teams. The $110-million renovation and expansion project began in mid-March in Evanston, Illinois, just as Northwestern’s men’s basketball team made its first run in the NCAA basketball tournament. The architect for the project is HOK. The Welsh-Ryan Arena is scheduled to complete in the fall of 2018 so each sports team misses just one season playing in the arena. Skanska Signs Contract for $35M for Ongoing New York City Project

Skanska has booked an additional order for its existing contract with The Durst Organization to renovate 1155 Avenue of the Americas, a high-rise building located in Midtown Manhattan in New York City. Skanska is providing infrastructure upgrades and core finishes to 30 floors in preparation for new tenants. Updates to the building include new floor air-handling units, cooling towers, emergency generator, emergency power riser, core restrooms, perimeter insulation, fire protection sprinklers and a new building management system. The incremental addition includes interior cell phone antenna and IT systems, as well as roofing.

BNBuilders to Take on $7.3M Historic Renovation

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – BNBuilders has recently been selected as the general contractor by the University of California San Diego for the Tuolumne Apartments Fire/Life Safety Renovations at campus in La Jolla, California. Designed by Heritage Architecture & Planning, the $7.3-million renovation will take into account state historic preservation objectives. This is not BNBuilders’ first time challenged with completing similar fast-track projects.
