Clark Celebrates Opening of National Museum of African American History and Culture

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The grand opening of the National Museum of African American History and Culture was recently held. The 409,000-square-foot structure is located on the National Mall adjacent to the Washington Monument. Construction of the museum began in February 2012. The NMAAHC is one of the most unique structures built in Washington, D.C. At five stories tall, the museum’s height is consistent with nearby buildings, but the visible portion of the museum only tells part of the story. Hensel Phelps Awarded Operational Support Facility at MacDill AFB

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Mobile District recently awarded Hensel Phelps the Operational Support Facility project at MacDill Air Force Base near Tampa, Florida. The project involves construction of a 37,000-square-foot, two-story cast-in-place Central Energy Plant that consolidates and provides all heating, ventilation, air conditioning, fire suppression, fire alarm, mass notification, closed-circuit television, intrusion detection, generators and switchgears to support the United States Special Operations Command and its mission supporting special operations around the globe. O’Hare Runway Wins Project of the Year Award from CMAA

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Construction Management Association of America has named a new runway built at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago, Illinois, as 2016 Project of the Year. The award for runway 10R-28L was presented to the Chicago Department of Aviation and WSP|Parsons Brinckerhoff in October at the 2016 CMAA National Conference and Trade Show Industry Recognition Dinner. The runway also received CMAA’s Project Achievement Award for infrastructure with constructed value greater than $150 million. Hensel Phelps Awarded UTEP Interdisciplinary Research Building Project

Hensel Phelps has been awarded the University of Texas at El Paso Interdisciplinary Research Building project in El Paso, Texas. This project includes the construction of a new 150,000-square-foot building to replace two underutilized buildings. It will provide critically needed space to continue expanding the number of fast-growing, multidisciplinary research initiatives aligned with the priorities articulated in UTEP’s Research Strategic Plan. Additional scope will include expanding the thermal plant infrastructure, extending electrical and communication duct banks and other anticipated site improvements. Preconstruction started in August of 2016, with construction starting in March of 2017.

Skanska to Build New Dining Hall for James Madison University in Virginia

Skanska has signed a $42-million contract with James Madison University to construct its new dining hall in Harrisonburg, Virginia. The new dining hall will be located in the center of campus. With about 108,000 square feet, it will seat 1,500 students and faculty. This building is targeted for LEED Silver certification. Skanska began construction in May 2016. The project is slated for completion in summer 2018.
