The Connecticut Technical Education and Career System, Gilbane Building Company and JCJ Architecture have broken ground on the new Bullard Havens Technical High School in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Designed by JCJ, the new 215,000-square-foot school will be built on the existing 24-acre site in multiple phases over a 41-month schedule to accommodate existing operations. Building features include a new classroom/lab space, field house, theory rooms, athletic fields, a gymnasium to accommodate the entire student body and a fitness center. Construction employment increased in 45 states in June from a year earlier, while 33 states added construction jobs from May to June, according to a new analysis of federal employment data released by the Associated General Contractors of America. Association officials said the job gains were welcome, but that widespread construction labor shortages mean many firms would likely have hired even more workers if they could find qualified candidates.
