The Rosendin Foundation Inspires Next Generation of Construction Workers
The Rosendin Foundation, a non-profit committed to positively impacting communities and empowering individuals, inspired the next generation of construction workers by teaching nearly 100 campers foundational skills at free summer camps held across the country. The third annual TRF Camp Build introduced 51 boys and 40 girls to the construction industry with hands-on learning activities that spanned 21 days in five cities. TRF Camp Build volunteers taught 7th to 10th graders how to use power tools safely, as well as electrical wiring, woodworking, pouring concrete, soldering and conduit bending. Balfour Beatty Breaks Ground on North Carolina History Center
Balfour Beatty, in association with Varnedoe Construction, has broken ground on the final phase of The North Carolina History Center on Civil War, Emancipation and Reconstruction. Once complete, the 60,000-square-foot facility located in Fayetteville’s Arsenal Park will serve as a transformative educational and cultural institution, telling the stories of all North Carolinians before, during and after the Civil War. AIA/Deltek Releases Latest Architecture Billings Index
The AIA/Deltek Architecture Billings Index continues to weaken posting a score of 46.2 for July, down from 46.8 in June, indicating that a majority of firms are still experiencing declining firm billings. Inquiries into new work grew slowly but steadily this month, following a brief three-month pause earlier this year. However, design contract values fell again in July as firms struggle to convert inquiries into projects—a challenge persisting alongside declining billings for over two and a half years. Skanska Completes Modernization, Expansion of Historic Landmark Montlake Elementary School in Seattle
Skanska has completed work on a 90,500-square-foot modernization and expansion of the historic Montlake Elementary School for Seattle Public Schools in Washington. The project included the modernization of the existing two-story, 16,500-square-foot Seattle Landmark schoolhouse and addition of a new 74,000-square-foot, three-story building housing the gym, cafeteria, kitchen, administration spaces, classrooms and library.
