LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Tishman Construction, a unit of AECOM, will manage construction of One Vanderbilt, a world-class commercial office development in Manhattan. Tishman will construct One Vanderbilt for New York City’s largest commercial property owner, SL Green Realty Corp. The 1,401-foot-tall skyscraper is designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox and located in the heart of New York’s East Midtown business district. Healthy Demand for All Building Types Signaled in ABI

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Led by a still active multi-family housing market and sustained by solid levels of demand for new commercial and retail properties, the Architecture Billings Index has accelerated to its highest score in nearly a year. As a leading economic indicator of construction activity, the ABI reflects the approximate 9-12-month lead time between architecture billings and construction spending. The American Institute of Architects reported the May ABI score was 53.1, up sharply from the mark of 50.6 in the previous month. Winter Johnson Group Awarded Top Prizes for Construction of Library

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Construction Management Association of America has awarded the Winter Johnson Group two Project Achievement awards for the construction of the new Metropolitan Library, a branch library on the south side of Atlanta, Georgia. The Winter Johnson Group built the new branch library on the former site of the Capital View Baptist Church, which the neighboring communities viewed as an important landmark. AGC Reports on Construction Employment April, May 2016

Thirty-nine states added construction jobs between May 2015 and May 2016 while construction employment only increased in 19 states between April and May, according to analysis of Labor Department data recently released by the Associated General Contractors of America. Association officials said monthly construction employment levels declined in most states as many firms appear to be running out of workers to hire amid growing labor shortages. “With construction demand remaining high and construction unemployment getting lower, the slowdown in monthly hiring probably has a lot more to do with a lack of workers than it does a lack of work,” … Read more

Ground is Broken on City of Hoover Sports and Events Center

HOOVER, Ala. – The city of Hoover recently broke ground on the Hoover Sports and Events Center. The facility will be built adjacent to the Hoover Metropolitan Stadium on 120 acres and is estimated to cost $76 million. Features of the facility include an indoor events center, outdoor sports fields, tennis complex and RV park expansion.
