Construction Safety Coalition Urges U.S. DOL to Withdraw Silica Proposal

The Construction Industry Safety Coalition, which represents twenty-five different construction trade associations, issued the following statement today as it filed comments regarding the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s proposed Crystalline Silica Rulemaking: “After an exhaustive analysis that involved hundreds of construction safety professionals, builders, construction managers and specialty trade contractors representing virtually every facet on the industry, it is our conclusion that the administration’s proposed new silica rule is significantly flawed and will do little to improve workplace health or safety. Despite Severe Weather Construction Industry Adds Jobs in January, Unemployment Rate Declines

Construction employment jumped by the largest monthly amount in nearly seven years in January, bringing industry employment to the highest level since July 2009, according to an analysis of new government data by the Associated General Contractors of America. Korte to Build Southern Illinois Healthcare Surgery Center

The Korte Company, based in Highland, Ill., will construct the surgery center as a design-build project, handling both architectural and design services. The 5,528-square-foot SIH Cosmetic and Reconstructive Surgery Center will be located in Carbondale, Ill. and will be completed in 2014. The surgery center will specialize in burns, microsurgery, pediatrics, trauma, cosmetics, breast augmentation, wounds and weight loss.
