ASCE Seeks Comments on Updated Professional Standard ASCE/SEI 7-22 

The American Society of Civil Engineers will conduct a public comment period on the update to ASCE/SEI 7 Minimum Design Loads and Associated Criteria for Buildings and Other Structures. The public comment period will begin on June 17 and remain open through Aug. 2. ASCE/SEI 7 Minimum Design Loads and Associated Criteria for Buildings and Other Structures is the most up-to-date and coordinated loading standard for general structural design. ASCE 7 describes the means for determining design loads including dead, live, soil, flood, tsunami, snow, rain, atmospheric ice, earthquake, wind including tornado, and fire, as well as how to assess load combinations. Maria Lehman Elected 2023 President of ASCE

The American Society of Civil Engineers members elected Maria Lehman, P.E, F.ASCE, ENV SP, as president of the Society for the 2022-2023 term. Lehman is ASCE’s national treasurer, serves on the Society’s Industry Leaders Council and is a member of the ASCE’s Committee on America’s Infrastructure, which is responsible for preparing the quadrennial Infrastructure Report Card. She is also GHD Inc.’s infrastructure market leader for the United States. ASCE Seeks Comments on Supplement to Professional Standard

The American Society of Civil Engineers will conduct a public comment period on Supplement 3 for ASCE/SEI 7-16, Minimum Design Loads and Associated Criteria for Buildings and Other Structures. The ASCE public comment period is being held from May 21- July 11. This Supplement updates section 11.4.8 provisions and commentary of the standard: Section 11.4.8 Site-Specific Ground Motion Procedures, with Table 11.4-1 Short-Period Site and Table 11.4-2 Long-Period Site also includes Chapter 11 Commentary, Section C11.4.8 are revised in this supplement.   To participate in the public comment period, contact James Neckel, ASCE’s codes and standards coordinator, at jneckel@asce.org or 703-295-6176.

ASCE Structural Engineering Institute Announces Structural Engineers 2050 Commitment Program 

The American Society of Civil Engineers Structural Engineering Institute has announced the Structural Engineers 2050 Commitment Program (SE 2050). The SEI Structural Engineers 2050 Commitment Program provides structural engineers with the necessary tools and resources to contribute and track projects toward the vision of net-zero embodied carbon structures by 2050.
