The contractor earned an Eagle Excellence in Construction Award for its work on the Texas Health Resources Recovery and Wellness Center in Mansfield, Texas. The award is the greatest possible honor for a specialty construction project, with this entry coming in the under-$10 million category. Balfour Beatty Awarded £70-Million Contract for Scotland University Refurbishment, Extension Project

Balfour Beatty has secured a £70-million contract to deliver the Edinburgh Futures Institute, a flagship refurbishment and extension project on behalf of the University of Edinburgh, located in Scotland. Balfour Beatty will be responsible for restoring and connecting six wards—unlocking the building’s wide corridors to create free-flowing areas in the university’s grade-A listed Old Royal Infirmary hospital building, spanning over 21,000 square meters. Seventy-nine percent of construction firms plan to expand their payrolls in 2019 but an almost equal percentage are worried about their ability to locate and hire qualified workers, according to survey results released by the Associated General Contractors of America and Sage Construction and Real Estate. Balfour Beatty’s 50/50 Far East joint venture, Gammon Construction, has been awarded a HK$5.5-billion works contract of the Lyric Theatre Complex and Extended Basement by the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority in Hong Kong to construct the final stage of the Lyric Theatre Development.
