New Building Advances Engineering Education, Research at Duke

Construction is complete on the 150,000-square-foot Wilkinson Building for the Pratt School of Engineering at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. Skanska USA served as general contractor on the project, which will house new engineering, education, research and entrepreneurship initiatives that bring together departments, faculty and students from across the university. The five-story concrete structure, which expands spaces dedicated to student education and programming in engineering by 50%, was built using Duke stone and Duke-blended face brick. David Lee Promoted to Senior Project Superintendent

David Lee has recently been promoted to senior project superintendent with Kitchell. He has worked his way up through the field since joining the company in 1994. Known as one of the best concrete superintendents in the industry, Lee has made his mark on legacy Kitchell projects, including Phoenix Children’s Hospital, the Phoenician and, most recently, the Catalina Parking Garage. He is a leader and mentor to project engineers and field engineers, as well as project managers, colleagues and trade partners.

Ward Malisch Receives WOC Legacy Award

Malisch, Ph.D., PE, concrete construction specialist, American Society of Concrete Contractors, received the World of Concrete Legacy Award Feb. 2, just prior to the show’s opening in Las Vegas, Nevada. WOC established the Legacy Award to recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to the concrete and masonry industries, and who have left a lasting mark on the show.
