WASHINGTON, D.C. – After beginning the year with a decline, the Architecture Billings Index has posted three consecutive months of increasing demand for design activity at architecture firms. As a leading economic indicator of construction activity, the ABI reflects the approximate 9-12-month lead time between architecture billings and construction spending. The American Institute of Architects reported the April ABI score was 50.6, down from the mark of 51.9 in the previous month. Hickory Construction Selected to Build Blount County War Dead Memorial Plaza
ALCOA, Tenn. – Hickory Construction, Inc. has been selected as the general contractor to build the new Blount County War Dead Memorial Plaza dedicated to the fallen military heroes of Blount County in Tennessee. The new memorial, to be located on the Blount County Courthouse lawn, will feature a plaza incorporating four monuments on the lawn, a Veterans Walk of Honor and a bench to sit and reflect. Rice University Breaks Ground on New Project
Rice University recently broke ground on the highly anticipated new parking garage and office annex project on the Houston, Texas campus. The six-story, 66,710-square-foot office building will house up to 295 work spaces, depending on office layouts. The east side of the building will be connected to a new seven-level parking garage with 450+ parking spaces. The building will feature terracotta fins that control the amount of natural light into the offices, while the parking garage will be disguised with leaf images displayed on large plastic scrims attached to the sides of the garage.
