It’s launch time in Frankfurt, Germany’s financial district for the central business tower on Neue Mainzer Strasse. This paves the way for construction of a new high-rise designed by KSP Engel and to be built by general contractor Ed. Züblin AG. The 205-meter-high building consists of two parts that face each other, albeit at a slight angle, and are linked by a connecting seam. With striking setbacks for the protruding flanks, a slender, delicately segmented twin tower arises with a total of 52 floors above ground and five beneath. The 47-floor Texas Tower, located in Houston, recently topped out. The project team includes Gilbane Building Company with team members from Hines Limited Partnership and Ivanhoé Cambridge and architect Pelli Clarke. The new tower will be an impressive addition to the Houston skyline and will total more than 1 million square feet. Construction is complete on 1100 Apex, an adaptive reuse, mixed-use apartment residence in downtown Clearwater, Florida. Positioned on a 2.1-acre site, the development was originally constructed as an office building in 1972. After several failed redevelopment attempts in the early 2000s, the structure was abandoned in 2009, after which it fell into disarray. A newly opened 17-story, 206-room Home2 Suites by Hilton Chicago River North, located in Illinois, recently opened. Mortenson teamed up with lead developer and owner Akara Partners on the $67-million extended-stay hotel, one of the few Home2 Suites by Hilton’s urban high-rise hotels, while also serving as the Design-Builder with Norr Architects.
