ICC Building Safety Month Campaign Kicks Off May 1

The International Code Council’s month-long educational campaign, which raises awareness about the importance of building codes in establishing and ensuring the safety of the built environment, kicks off May 1. This year’s theme — “Game On!” — motivates people to get in the game and take part in learning about and practicing building safety. Mass Timber Requirements Added to Free Heights & Areas Calculator

The American Wood Council, International Code Council and WoodWorks have joined together to release an updated version of the free app to calculate maximum allowable heights and areas for buildings of various occupancy classifications and types of construction. The Heights & Areas Calculator is based on the provisions in the 2021 and earlier editions of the International Building Code, which includes the Type-IV mass timber construction types. New Standard Available on MEP Systems Used in Off-site Construction

The International Code Council, in partnership with the Modular Building Institute, has published ICC/MBI 1210-2023, Standard for Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing Systems, Energy Efficiency and Water Conservation in Off-site Construction. This American National Standard is now part of ICC/MBI’s existing series of off-site construction standards, including ICC/MBI 1200-2021 and ICC/MBI 1205-2021. ICC/MBI Standard 1210 includes the componentization and modularization of elements of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems and the incorporation of MEP systems in componentized, panelized or modularized building elements. The International Code Council, ASHRAE Create New Certification

The International Code Council, with sponsorship from ASHRAE, released a new International Green Construction Code certification, Commercial Green Construction Professional. The Commercial Green Construction Professional certification was created to assist in developing new standards for building construction in order to address the problem of greenhouse gas emissions and to help reinforce societal health, life and safety benefits.
