International Tunnelling, Underground Space Awards 2020 Winners Announced

Since 2015, the international competition, ITA Tunnelling and Underground Space Awards, rewards the most ground-breaking innovation and outstanding projects in tunneling and underground space use. After a challenging year, especially on safety issues, the event went digital and awarded the best achievements in the industry in eight categories. After editions in Switzerland, Singapore, France, China and the USA, this year’s virtual edition allowed more than 700 attendees to attend during the first two days. Skanska Signs Contract to Build Apartments in Helsinki, Finland

Skanska has signed a contract with the City of Helsinki to build new apartments in Helsinki, Finland. The contract is worth EUR 34M, about SEK 350M, to be included in the Nordic order bookings for the fourth quarter 2020. The project encompasses three apartment buildings totaling 170 subsidized apartments in Jätkäsaari district in Helsinki. The buildings will represent the highest energy-efficiency class and include rooftop solar panels that will help generate some of the electricity used by the property. STRABAG Awarded Railway Construction Contract in Slovakia

STRABAG s.r.o., the Slovak subsidiary of construction group STRABAG SE, along with consortium partners EUROVIA CS a.s., Subterra a.s. and AŽD Praha s.r.o., was awarded the contract to build the new Žilina-Teplička railway station and to modernize the infrastructure of one of the most important Slovak railway junctions for a total of around € 323 million. Upgrade to Flood Defenses on Kingston on Hull Dock Village Facilitates Reopening of Footpath Trail

A popular section of footpath, which is part of the Trans Pennine Trail, is reopening after an upgrade to flood defenses on Hull’s Victoria Dock Village western frontage, located in England. The majority of the path has opened so people can walk along the estuary front from The Deep up to the corner at the Half Tide Basin. First Ground-Up Project Complete for Turner Vancouver, British Columbia Team

Turner Construction Company’s Vancouver, British Columbia team celebrated its first ground-up project, with the recent completion of the Heather Place Redevelopment for Metro Vancouver Housing, located in Canada. The project included the construction of a five-story, 67-residential rental unit building, complete with a cast-in-place concrete structure, with fiberglass windows, a combination of metal, cement, brick veneer as well as exposed architectural concrete making up the exterior finishes.
