Bechtel Celebrates Opening of Riyadh Metro Project

The official inauguration of the Riyadh Metro network was recently celebrated. As Saudi Arabia’s first underground railway project, it is expected to initially serve 1.2 million daily passengers, with ultimately a planned maximum capacity of 3.6 million passengers daily. The project was delivered by the BACS consortium, which includes Bechtel, Almabani General Contractors, Consolidated Contractors Company and Siemens. The consortium was responsible for the design, construction, testing, commissioning and integration of the network’s Blue Line (line 1), officially operational, and the Red Line (line 2), scheduled to soon commence passenger operations. A unique infrastructure project in the mountains of Saudi Arabia, a location of the future in the desert with dams, a lake and iconic architectural works, was commissioned to Webuild by NEOM for the Trojena mountain destination in a contract worth USD $4.7 billion. A groundbreaking ceremony was recently held for the €840-million Diriyah Square – Package 2 Super-Basement Works, a mega, multi-level car park to be built for 10,500 vehicles in Riyadh, located in Saudi Arabi. The three-story underground garage, covering nearly 1 million square meters, lies at the heart of an ambitious urban development project in Ad Diriyah, the historic district and UNESCO heritage site northwest of Riyadh.
