Construction Plastics Initiative Advances Sustainable Building Practices in Metro Vancouver

Light House, an organization focused on advancing circular practices in the built environment, and its Construction Plastics Initiative, which launched in 2024 to capture, divert and upcycle plastic waste from Metro Vancouver (Canada) construction sites, have added two new construction project partners — the Freedom Mobile Arch with general contractor EllisDon Corporation and the Steveston Community Centre with general contractor Scott Construction. Construction is complete on the new Behavioral and Social Sciences Building at California State University, Chico, located in California. The 94,000-square-foot facility sets a new benchmark for sustainable construction, while fostering cutting-edge research, collaboration and student success. Turner Construction Company served as the general contractor on the project. Earning LEED Gold Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, the new build incorporates energy-efficient systems. Winners Announced for 2024 Slag Cement in Sustainable Concrete Awards

The Slag Cement Association recently announced the winners of its 2024 Slag Cement in Sustainable Concrete Awards. The winning projects were unveiled and celebrated during the spring ACI Concrete Convention in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Fourteen construction projects from across the United States and Canada were chosen to showcase the broad applications of slag cement and its impact on creating more durable and resilient concrete. General contractor Balfour Beatty has started construction on the Northern Virginia Science Center in Dulles, Virginia, for the Science Museum of Virginia. Once complete, the project will fulfill the region’s long-held vision for a world class, interactive and innovative science center, which is expected to serve over 300,000 visitors of all ages each year. Plans for New €3.2B Semiconductor Assembly, Test Facility Underway in Italy

Silicon Box has selected Stantec and its partner, Drees & Sommer, for the new €3.2-billion semiconductor assembly and test facility in northern Italy. Stantec will provide architecture for the administration areas and infrastructure design including overall permitting services, while Drees & Sommer is contributing industrial engineering, architecture, structural engineering, mechanical/electrical engineering and clean room/dry room design for the production and utility buildings. A general contractor has not yet been selected for the project.
