Construction Industry Adds 23,000 Jobs in September, says ABC
The U.S. construction industry added 23,000 net new positions in September, according to an Associated Builders and Contractors analysis of data released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. During the last 12 months, the industry has added 315,000 net new jobs, an increase of 4.5 percent. Nonresidential construction employment expanded by 18,600 net jobs on a monthly basis, while the residential sector added just 4,400 net positions. Though construction unemployment rose to 4.1 percent in September, it remains low by historical standards. Construction Underway on Georgia Aquarium Expansion
Brasfield & Gorrie recently joined Georgia Aquarium representatives, Atlanta, Georgia public school students and local community partners to break ground on the Aquarium’s Expansion 2020 project. The effort will change the face of the aquarium by adding a new four-story structure that will complement the existing building’s iconic boat façade. It will also include a 1 million gallon shark exhibit. The shark exhibit will be the focal point of the 104,100-square-foot expansion. Construction Industry Alliance for Suicide Prevention’s First Strategic Planning Session Propels Initiative Forward
In August, the Construction Industry Alliance for Suicide Prevention recently became classified as a public charity under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3) and, on Sept. 25, held its first strategic planning session in Washington, D.C. Formed two years ago by the Construction Financial Management Association, the mission of the alliance is to provide and disseminate information and resources for suicide prevention and mental health promotion in construction.
